So yes, this could have been a cross device transcription issue of some kind.
If you transferred to a new system, running the same OS as the old one, there shouldn't be a problem. If you switched OSes, I would expect problems to turn up...
...which is why on the rare occasion when I switch to/from linux <--> Windows, I always run the Restore database tool (in library management).
