If you read carefully, you'll see that the "two months battery life advertised by the main players" is based on a half hour reading per day with WiFi off. That comes out to about 30 hours of reading, provided you aren't using WiFi very much. I have a Boyue T62+ with the Onyx Boox C67ML (Carta) firmware running on it. After eight days of use (reading 1-2 hours per day with WiFi mostly off) my battery is down to about 50%. That's close, though perhaps not quite there.

As for apps, most reading apps were not designed for eInk, as you may know. There is a version of AlReader somewhere on Mobileread that is tweaked for eInk. That works well. Moon Reader works well on eInk, especially if you use the Outdoor theme. The Kindle app works on most eInk devices, but on some, the page turns may look a bit smudgy. Most eInk devices have their native reader apps. I happen to like the Onyx Neo Reader for ePubs. The Adobe reader on Boyue devices also works well.

I wouldn't try most games, and certainly no video. But games like sudoku or crosswords should work fine. As long as you keep the focus on reading, and on apps that are largely focused on reading, you should be fine.
