This is a problem some people see but not everyone. I do not see it on any of my Kobo ereaders. But, I do not believe it was fixed for those who did see it.

I bought a Kobo a couple of days ago and, coming from a Kindle, I find all the quirks and kinks surprising. Like the bugs above or having to setup calibre to produce kepubs (instead of epubs) so that footnotes work... kobo really needs to look into a better QA process

In what way do footnotes not work in epubs? I have used plenty with few issues. I do like they way that footnotes are handled in kepubs, but that is not in any way related to QA issue. And from your above "problems", only one might be a QA issue.
