Three farmhands came up with an idea on how they could win the state fair contest for having the largest hog. They figured that if they corked a pig in a way that would not allow his body waste to exit and continue to feed him for the month before the fair they would surely win.
The first problem was that none of them wanted to be the one to insert the cork. They finally decided to purchase a monkey and train him to insert corks into bottle openings. After a week or two of training they place the monkey in the pen with the pig and hand him a cork. After a minute the monkey did what he was trained to do.
The farmhands followed their plan, fed the pig for a month, entered the pig in the fair and won first prize.
Once they returned to the farm they realized their second problem: No one wanted to take the cork out. So they begin training the same monkey to take corks out of bottles.
After a week of training, they placed the monkey in the pen with the pig and waited.
Several days later at the hospital the first farmhand to awaken is questioned about the massive damage done to the pig barn on the farm: "What is the last thing you remember?"
The farmhand replies, "The look on the poor little monkey's face as he tried to stick the cork back in."
