Maybe that is **your** only purpose, but .....
Originally, and still somewhat today, the Amazon e-book reader was a marketing research tool.
That purpose sparked the interest in taking control of the e-book reader's behavior by the e-book's owner.
Jail breaking is a significant part of accomplishing that control.
Another community interest point -
Some people are interested in Embedded Computer Systems - -
something becoming ever more present in consumer electronics.
(Its been a key component of commercial electronics for decades.)
Check the prices of a decent, general purpose, embedded system development board -
A Kindle is about 1/10 the price.
And people tell me (repeatedly) that you can also read books with them, when not playing with the hardware and firmware.
Although that is just a rumor to me - I have never tried to put mine to such a far-out use as reading books with them.
