I did more experimenting as suggested. The reader chokes on the .mobi after opening it, and then restarts the reader. The .kepub surprisingly worked and worked well though on the Glo HD, so at least I can use it while out without having to go back to the Glo.
I tried 2 other very large books, the Douay-Rheims Bible (only 2.1mb but 10k pages), and a Betty Crocker Cookbook (170mb with a lot of photos like the camera book). Both loaded in .epub and .kepub formats on the reader. However the cookbook was pretty garbled in .epub format, even though it did open (it's an older book, no idea where I purchased it from so there could be something wrong with the conversion). The Bible links didn't work in the .kepub format, but was readable in both .kepub and .epub.
Maybe there's something about a lot of images within a book that the Glo HD can't handle (or maybe it's the firmware)? If it can open just fine on 2-4 year old readers, it should also open just fine on Kobo's newest reader.
Edit: Actually, the images in the camera book are mostly .png. Did I read some posts about issues with that format on some firmwares?
