yes, all those books are drm locked to the old device.
there are 2 methods.
1 is to install kindle for PC and re-download your purchases to that. there is no quick way for 2000 books though. then each new download will be in the kindle for PC documents folder. you make that an auto-add folder in calibre - or you use drag and drop to get those books into calibre . because you now have the plugin installed, they will de-drm as they go. I would put the old copies into a different calibre library before starting or delete them to avoid confusion.
2. IF windows can see your old kindle e-ink reader, you can configure the plug-in for it ( you will have to ask at the plug in site for detailed help as we are not allowed to give it here).
then copy your books from the old device into calibre and the plug in should do it's magic.
the 3rd way is to accept there is no fast "copy all" option. this was discussed recently in another thread and there is no quick way to 2000 books onto a new amazon device. Amazon expects you to keep them in their cloud and only download when needed. your new device should be show all of your old books when you ask it to show you what is in the cloud, and each will download in a few seconds, and will be drm locked to the device it downloads to. you can have the same amazon books on more than one device, if you directly download to each device, and register each device to the same amazon account.
please ask if any of the above is not clear.
