Amazon is unusual in making sure every device they ever sold still works as intended, even once active feature development ceases. There are reportedly still Original Kindle owners who still use those Kindle without problems.

Yes, a lot of companies abandon perfectly good hardware for lack of a software update. But Amazon did dump the DX and stopped updating it. So it became a rather large doorstop. Amazon should have kept the DX updated and it might be selling still.
