And no, using the touch screen is not really an option. My thumb joint hurts when I have to move it so far to tap/swipe.
Unless they changed the firmware so that you could tap on the first inch or so on BOTH sides to page forward, and go toward the center to page back. I like to hold my reader in my left hand and reaching over the Back area to touch to turn is too far for my poor thumb. That might work, and seems like it would make sense for easier use in both hands. Hmmm.
I don't know, I still just want the little buttons back.

You sound a lot like me. I never liked using my PW1, besides the milky window on the screen, I just didn't like the touchscreen for reading and changing pages. It hurts my joint like you to constantly wipe back and forth. I man the swipe of the thumb to get to the spot, not that I did a long swipe on the screen. As much as I read, that constant joint going like that hurt.
I bought a basic so I could read again and yes those are nice buttons. Of course they took those away now too. I also though needed the light for my eyes.
The Voyage haptic buttons work pretty well I have to say. I don't have to move my thumb, but just press down slightly and I can still hold it in one hand doing that without losing the grip.
I don't know where you live or if you have a store where you could at least touch those buttons to see how you like it. It took me a couple of weeks to find the sweetspot with sensitivity and feedback that I called thumb farts.

I actually now find them a tad easier to use than the buttons on my basic. But either work fine for me.

My screen on the Voyage has no color issues. And I know about screen unevenness as I had no luck with the PW1 in that regard. I notice nothing on my Voyage.
