Gee, that's unfortunate! I have not had the same problem, but then I always login and then wait for confirmation that the audiobook has been downloaded to my Android device. I then back up the audiobooks from my device to my laptop.
I wonder if Audiobooks.com Customer support would give you the ebooks if you reported this problem to them? You're not the only one in this thread to indicate you've experienced it, and since it's likely more widespread than that, Audiobooks.com is probably aware of it. Because of that, I hope, they might be inclined to accommodate you.
