Plug it in to USB and look at the .kobo/affiliate.conf text file

Mine said "affiliate=Kobo" and would not update. I changed it to "affiliate=bestbuyca" and then hit Sync and it immediately downloaded the update and asked if I wanted to update now. You can revert the affiliate line after the update if you want.
