I agree ccowie. Surely the whole point of a Book Club is to participate, whether the book you chose got up or not. Sometimes you don't enjoy the chosen book, but some are real discoveries, and surely that's what it's all about, along with getting insights from what other people found in a book that you may have missed.
And I think the requirement to have participated, i.e. joined in the discussion, for two months in the previous six is not a tough requirement for anyone who genuinely wants to join the Club. It simply means that the small membership should not be swamped by people who fly by, think it might be fun to vote for something, and then disappear again without trace.
