Breathing. I know, it's soooooooooooo trite, but true. My sister gets panic attacks that are disabling. And if all else fails (if you don't have any of the tried and trues in the house), don't forget that a plain old cuppa tea and some crackers, like saltines, work wonders. Carbs of that type (not sugar, obviously) are nature's tranquilizers. It's why unhappy people eat. So, if you can, try to keep tea of some kind around, along with plain-ish crackers, as emergency rations. Or the type of "crackers" that the Brits call crackers, which are almost cookies. Those work too, the slightly-sweetened versions. Offered FWIW. (n.b.: I've used fortune cookies to bring my sister down, with green tea, and that works.)
