This type of ghosting didn't happen until 3.15.0, and in 3.15.0 it could be fixed by setting LeanAndMean=false which make the reverse menu items white on black instead of the odd colour combinations they are now.

This ghosting is visible on the Kobo Touch too. And as you said, LeanAndMean does not change it.
