I still think this plan actually encourages newcomers to be involved, but I certainly understand the concern. I've noticed (more in the other club than the literary club) that some like to vote, but if the book chosen is something they're not interested in, they simply don't read and participate. This likely shouldn't bug me, but it does. I read several books that I was not necessarily interested in. Sometimes I was pleasantly surprised and sometimes I still participated and indicated why I didn't like the book. I think, like any club, if one nominates and votes for books, then they should participate in the reading and discussion of the group selection.
