You can test if this is the case by going to calibre / preferences / device interfaces / smart device, clicking the Configure button, then unchecking the box "Replace books with same calibre ID". If that makes the new books appear instead of replacing existing books then we know something.

This seems to have worked. CNET just downloaded and I sync'd it to CC. Two instances of CNET now coexist on the tablet. But here's an interesting (but very minor) glitch. The date added to CC is correct (one for today, one for yesterday) but the date added to Calibre for both is today (so something modified yesterdays metadata on that specific file.) I doubt it makes any difference but as previously noted, the date formats are different. In both cases the date added to Calibre is "15 Jun 2015" The date added to CC is "2015-06-15"
