I bought four full-price* Big Five books last week, at least in part for political reasons. Two are Tor books, bought to show support for them during the current SF hullaballoo, one is a Penguin book bought to support an author who's been saying really smart things about said mess, and the last is unrelated to the mess. All four were on my wish list; I merely made it a priority to purchase them sooner.

I may have spent four or five dollars more than I would have by waiting for one hardback-equivalent's price to drop, but there's also the chance that the Penguin prices will go up without notice, which would have cost me four bucks - so I consider it a wash. I didn't need them now, but supporting good folks is a good thing to do.

* Well, not marked down at the retail level, anyway. Two of them are mass-market equivalents that are $8 in some stores and $6 at Amazon and Google, so I bought them at Google.
