Your device seems pretty dead to me, you can try some combinations with the pin hole by inserting a paperclip and hold the reset button and then play with the power on switch some times.
If that doesn't work there are 2 solutions, send your device in for service, or open the case (warranty void) which seems very easy on the Glo HD, and disconnect the battery.
If that doesn't work, search for some topics if someone has the image of the card already,if the device is already open you can put the reader back in the original state by flashing the memory card that is in,by getting the internal card out (it is in a normal slot) and put it in your computer and restore the image.

Thank you for all your suggestions. I am not worried about voiding the warranty; I live in Asia and it is not worth my while to send it back to Kobo. I will certainly try all of your suggestions, although some of them seem a bit drastic.

Whilst my Glo HD is out of commission, I still have Kobo H2O, Kobo Mini and Kindle Keyboard. All of them are brilliant in their own way. Kobo H2O is my favourite at home and Kobo Mini is brilliantly handy when I am out and about. Kindle Keyboard now acts as my spare reader.

I hope my Glo HD works eventually. If not, I will just order another one or two when Kobo next have a sale.
