The H2O uses Mark 5 firmware for which is not yet a link available, IMHO you must not apply other Mark firmware on a device then where it is made for.
It is pretty safe. The contents of the KoboRoot.tgz in each of the packages is identical other than a few images and some fonts. The real differences are in the "upgrade" directory. This contains the kernel and boot loader images. You shouldn't use the wrong one, but, the install code tries to make sure the wrong version isn't used. Only the upgrade directory in the N905/N905B package might be dangerous if used on the wrong device.

The only issue there might be is if there is a change in the kernel. There might be a bug fix or a change that some new function relies on. In that case, you might need to go back to the previous firmware. In any case, the worst that could happen is you would need to do a factory reset.
