As you have already discovered, Duokan also requires a jailbreak (but it is bundled with Duokan itself, and is incompatible with ours).
I recently stickied a thread with a guide to jailbreaking over the serial port, which is something you might want to try, assuming you are comfortable using a hardware-based jailbreak at least.
Once jailbroken you can install KOReader at least.
