Here is a video of me doing a highlight. This was on the very first try, and is as it's about 80-90% of the time for me.

This is definitely not normal. I use the highlight function a lot, and have been using it for quite some time, and I've never had that happen to me. Once I press "highlight", it's always correctly registered, on both epub and kepub books.
