Yes, exactly. A normal shutdown is a shorter push, as described in the Users Guide. A reboot (which I think is also termed a reset) is for when the device is unresponsive. In this case I would prefer to use the Reset Hole - which is not accessible on my device due to the faulty cover. Saves data which is on the device.

A Factory Reset is again more severe, if all else fails, and will set the device back to its original state (no books, login, settings, etc). Wipes out all user data.

Sorry to beleaguer what is probably straitforward to many, but I do feel better knowing at least some work-arounds for the Reset Hole.
