the must obvious method is to use the device itself and assign a category one by one to each book; however for a large collection it is impossible.
You could do it with a Calibre plugboard. Add a custom column to Calibre containing your category, and then use a plugboard to append it to the title or author of the PDF. Personally I find plugboards much more useful than collections.
