Just curious, what did you dislike about Plex? I find it the best and easiest solution to get to my videos to almost any device. I re-purposed an Acer Netbook with just an Atom processor and 2 gig ram and it does a fine job as a Plex server. But I used Linux rather than the Windows Plex version.
Those Sony BDP are excellent considering they are great streaming devices as well as disk players. I have two of them.
