IF the wifi is on and somebody reads on it, it should presumably change the position of the bookmarks on whatever you were reading. So if you open your library from the Kobo app and any one book, it should take you at the most recent bookmark location, i.e. the one of the "clandestine reader" (if there is such a person). If you are already reading on both the ereader and the kobo app (e.g. on your phone), then when you open the last book you were reading you should get a message of the kind "it seems you were reading on another device, do you want me to sync the position?", or similar.
Of course, though, you need the wifi to be switch on on your device, and to be in range of some network that it would connect to.
Good luck!
