It depends on how aggressive people are when they say it. Normally I just ignore. If I think they're trying to insult me I'd just say something like:
You mustn't be reading very good books if you don't lose yourself in the story.
or
I know what you mean, I prefer a fine meal on a paper plate with a paper napkin. Don't let the snobs change you.
