The light was "off"; it was pitch dark and no light was being emitted (when i turned on the lamp, the slider was at 0 (off.). Also, swiping only works when you are reading?

Some times my finger covers the light, and I usually don't hold the reader at an angle where the light is visible. If I have to look at the light to determine if it is going into/out of sleep, that is a fail. YMMV.

Maybe, but I thought there were transmitters/receivers on both sides. And the touch/Glo/H2O/Aura HD don't need the shiney bezel?
