It could be just the weird file structures Google uses it's like they intentionally try to make it as hard as possible to use Micro SD cards, they honestly have something against local storage and want people to use their cloud.

To further confuse things they have also names the actual devices internal storage SDcard so there is a decent chance that's what is confusing you.

On my G3 I have to get to the Micro SD by browsing to

/storage/external_SD/

It may take backtracking a directory or two until you see the storage folder.
