I have eye strain problems too. My mac monitor is set so dim it is practically off, and I've found an app that puts the colors to a very low sepia setting. I used to invert the colors and read with a black background (even though white letters were awful, the black background was soothing enough to make up for it).

I find the Voyage very easy to read on. I've never had a Paperwhite, though, so I can't compare there. But the high resolution on the Voyage is a great help, and the lighted screen (my last was a K4, unlighted) is not at all a problem for me, though I keep it set fairly low.

Try one; I think you'll like it.
