I've read both Alex Verus and Aaronvitch. Alex Verus did eventually grow on me but I guess that was partly because I kept comparing it to the Dresden files in the beginning, which probably isn't fair. I supposed it does have it own charms and I did end up liking the series. Aaronvitch wasn't too bad but I think that it's very easy to feel lost if you lose concentration/focus while reading (ie if you keep getting distracted like I was LOL). At least that's how it was for me.

All in all though, nothing beats Dresden. LOL. (but then I am already biased)
