I'm using a few custom colums:
Pages - Used for the value returned by the Count Pages plugin
Super - This contains a "Super Series" column. For example, The Dark Elf Trilogy and Icewind Dale Trilogy form the first six books of the super series "The Lengend of Drizzt".
Arch - This contains an overarching theme. Often, in shared worlds, books in different series form their own storyline.
Read - Is empty, or contains one or more years in which the book was read.
