The 7th gen, also known as the current Kindle Basic or Kindle Touch 2, is the lowest tier Kindle device. It differs from the Paperwhite 2, which is considered a step up, in that it has no integrated front light and it has a lower resolution 167ppi Pearl screen as opposed to a 212ppi Carta screen (which is higher resolution and higher contrast).
