I solved my problem by taking a strip of Velcro and sticking it to the lower right-hand side of the back of the Paperwhite. I then the stuck a magnet on the strip of Velcro. Now when it goes into sleep mode, I use my mouth stick to swing the magnet up and over the lower right-hand corner of the reader, which is where the switch is that turns it off and on. This works pretty well.
A side note is that Amazon made the screens of these devices with a texture that supposedly feels more like paper. This causes the mouth stick and styluses to not make good contact with the screen. The result of this is that you have to tap the screen several times to get it to turn the page or use any of the other features of the reader. Seems to me that if a person wanted the feel of paper they would be reading a paper book. Are you listening Amazon?
