I just got a Samsung Tab S 8.4 and so far I am loving it. It's great for both reading and web surfing. Web surfing on the Nexus was not as good. The sizes are not much different and the weight is a little less since I have the LTE Nexus. I got the 16 gb version since it has an sd card unlike the Nexus. I don't find the size a problem, but I rarely hold my devices. I use a cover that has felt inside so that when I lean it on my leg it stays and doesn't fall off.
My only issue so far is that I had to put the system font size to extra large because Samsung didn't do a good job of setting the dpi in non Samsung apps, and I have seen the same complaint from others. I plan to fix this by rooting and installing the Xposed App Settings module. Setting the system font size to extra large is only a problem in settings, but since Samsung has really strange sections in settings it makes it harder to figure out where things are because the font is so large words are cut off.
I also found that the battery lasts much longer if I use dark themes. On the Nexus I got decent battery life either way, but it's not as good as it used to be.
And it's a new toy!
