@BetterRed: Do they specifically want an e-ink device? I ask because he is coming from Apple, which is LED. If LED is important or even acceptable, you might suggest a Google Nexus 7. It is natively supported by calibre (MTP). The two models add up to 1/3 of CC's installed base, so I can assume that it is very popular with readers. Yes, Google no longer sells it but Acer and Amazon do.
Note that I am not suggesting that he use CC. It could easily be overkill, and in any event the Russian translation is only around 40% complete.
