Calibre and Kobo
Can one send books to a new Kobo reader from calibre, without using any of the Kobo add-ons - drivers, plugins.

My neighbour, a non-English speaking +70 year old, got caught up in the IOS problems last year and he stopped using calibre. He likes calibre but he doesn't want a repeat of the IOS problems. His granddaughter has suggested she buy him a Kobo.
