Write an email to your client mentioning that all professionally formatted books sold by BPHs use hyphens in a process called justification. Ask him if he wants a book that a BPH would be willing to publish. Link to the Wikipedia articles on hyphenation and justification for added measure.
Delete that email without sending it, and write a new one that says essentially the same thing but politely.
