Hi,
I am having the same problem to replace the MsgE6.apk in /system/app folder.
I tried: total commander, ES file explorer root permision], terminal on Kobo, ADB shell. All of these fail with the shell/terminal error indicating the the system/app is read-only. Even as sudo these fail!
I then removed the SD card and booted the partition in Unbuntu. I replaced the MsgE6.apk and renamed MsgE6.odex to MsgE6.odex.bak. The girls are gone but the device doesnt go into sleep mode anymore.

I tried from shell: mount -o rw,remount /system but i only the get the mount help output in return.
Any help in getting write access to the /system folder would be appreciated.
