Charlotte Brontë (* 21. April 1816 in Thornton, Yorkshire; † 31. März 1855 in Haworth, Yorkshire) war eine britische Schriftstellerin. Sie veröffentlichte ihre Romane unter dem Pseudonym Currer Bell.

Obwohl es ein Gouvernantenroman aus dem Viktorianischen Zeitalter ist scheint er immer noch viel gelesen zu werden. Der Anfang des Romans soll autobiographisch sein.
