I just used the term used in the title of the thread, so decided to stick to it
I know there's no such thing, it's the top "frosting" screen layer has a tiny damage.
The bright spot is visible on my Kobo H2O when the frontlight is on, see the photos. Returning it back to Canada is not an option, unfortunately.

@LeJon, no, that definitely is not a screen defect. You can see the spot even on his finger.
