. These reviews aren't intended to be comparisons against all competition, not even when they review software or other computer hardware. I have complained to PC Mag before theat it would be most helpful if they compared this week's 4 star monitor to last month's 4 star monitor so a reader could know which was the better 4 star monitor, but it just ain't gonna happen.
The review noted the 700's major flaws, at least as discussed here on MR: the lack of screen contrast and the lack of wireless. It also noted what "improvements" were made over the 505. And it did mention the big competition here in the United States -- the Kindle. Yes there are other devices available, but in the U.S. it is probably safe to say that the for eink devices, the top 2 are Sony and Kindle, and PC Mag is a U.S. magazine.
In the end, I'm not sure what a real indepth comparative review would demonstrate. For some people wireless is the must have feature, which means Kindle. For others it is the book-like feel, which means Sony. For others it is another feature, which means another device such as the Cybook. I guess I just don't see the review in PC Mag as being anything more or less than any other review in any other magazine or blog or TV show has been.
