Finished: A Dangerous Man by Charles Huston, one of the free downloads from Books on Board last week. Rated R for violence. I enjoyed it very much, despite the very very dark subject matter. I did not realize that it was the 3rd book in a 3-book series until the author's note at the back of the book. It absolutely can stand alone.

Spoiler:
The author did a magnificent job of making me actually end up rooting for the protagonist, which is a sign of some pretty good storytelling. I had to keep reminding myself to hate him. The man is a natural born victim on a pity party from hell. When his athletic aspirations end due to injury, he spirals downward, ending up lower than all but the worst men end up.

Quit after a couple of pages: Free Range Chickens by Simon Rich, another of the BoB freebies. It blows chunks. OK, that wasn't a helpful review, was it? This is a series of what the book description calls "humorous" essays. I just found the guy to be pathetic, whiny, and self-absorbed. (Reminded me of our recent "Genius") I would not want to be his friend in real life, so I surely do not care to read a disconnected string of his musings over the most trivial of childhood memories.
I think the deadline is the 22nd. It's not very long though.

I'm glad I didn't download either of those, I'm not a fan of violent books, and not a fan of crappy books

I did get Prague and the Foreign Correspondent. They looked promising.
