I am blessed to work in Science, where blue jeans and sneakers are de rigueur. Occasionally steel toed sneakers, depending on your job. You can tell the visitors (or the interviewees) by the suits and ties they wear.
I wore a skirt a few times, in the early years. Once, I did so because I knew I was taking tests that day, so it seemed safe. Nope. I got sent out on a task and had to go down a manhole ladder in my skirt. My partner decided that the polite thing was to let me go first, rather than the reverse! That was the last skirt I wore.
