David Prowse (the man in the Vader suit) spoke the lines for Darth Vader on set. During filming Peter Cushing found the boots that his character was supposed to wear painful for his feet so he asked if he could do his scenes wearing carpet slippers instead. So in all the scenes where Mr. Cushing was on screen he's wearing slippers since they never have him in far shots that would show that he wasn't wearing boots.
