You can get a brand new Chromecast for only $8.97 from OwnZones, by signing up for one of their channels. I waited to post this until I had proof of it myself, and my Chromecast arrived this week. Brand new, sealed in the box. Here's how (info borrowed from a post by masupo at SlickDeals):
Step by step instruction to receive free Chromecast(s) from OwnZones
- Go to https://ownzones.com/chromecast-free-media-player/
- Click Sign Up and fill out the info. You will receive a verification email. You must verify before continuing. (This part shouldn't be complicated, however I never received a verification email at my Yahoo address. I signed up again using Gmail with no issues, but others had trouble with the site accepting Gmail addresses - that may have been resolved.)
- After verification sign in
- Click button that says "Sign up Now"
- Subscribe to a channel. Make sure to choose one that costs $8.97 for 3 months.
- If you want to receive up to the max amount of Chromecasts (4 per address), sign up for additional channels. You can do this at any time prior to offer expiration date.
Offer expires 2015/05/31. Only the channels listed on the above link qualify for the free Chromecast. There are currently three channels that only cost $8.97. The price is per quarter, you only pay $8.97 total for the three months, then it'll renew at three month intervals if you don't cancel it. Unsubscribing is very easy to do from the website. Just go to My Account > My Purchases and uncheck the "Subscribe" box. It took about a month total from when I signed up till the Chromecast arrived. I never received any notification about shipping, it just arrived.
I went ahead and signed up for a second channel today to get another Chromecast. I'm still debating if I'll do another two. (The first channel I signed up for is no longer listed on the offer, so I still have two more I can do at $8.97.)
This is a very good deal, and great if you've kind of wanted a Chromecast but didn't want to spend $30 for one!
