It works. Nice and smooth.
I'm tempted to sideload FBreader or Coolreader to see how it plays out.

As for Kodi, it is very impressive.
I tried out the network side-loading and it worked perfectly.
Kodi turns the Fire TV stick into a 90% WDTV Live-equivalent. Which, for the price of the stick makes it a must-have.

The gui is merely good and the alternates I checked are more "kewl" than polished but I threw stuff at it that VLC chokes on and it handled it flawlessly. Even iso files. I had to work hard to find its limits (or, more precisely, the limits of the hardware); very high quality VC-1 files at 1080p/24 run slow and stutter. Most other video apps just choke on those. Or even the 720p/60 versions that Kodi on the stick plays fine.

Now, if only Amazon would admit it runs and let us download it directly...


Oh, and yes: on a PC or Mac with tuner and/or video capture hardware it will serve as a PVR.
