Well it will depend on country, but in New Zealand I can buy physical Kobo gift cards at my local bookshop, but I can't buy physical Amazon gift cards anywhere, not even online from Amazon unless I use a freight forwarder and pay the postage myself (and it sort of defeats the purpose of a physical gift card if I have to buy it online.) So in my case Amazon is the one making it difficult, Kobo is much simpler.
