Thanks Ghitulescu. There is nothing on the Sony. There's a new development too. After I disconnected the Sony from the computer it was stuck (and I had added two ebooks outside the database) in the loading mode. So I let it be for two hours. Still stuck so I did a hard re-set. And it took me to the re-set page, then wouldn't let me complete the re-set. (I think this thing was designed to mess with me.)

And you're right about the thread. I guess I was thinking that somebody told me I'd have a better chance of getting it to work if Calibre detected it and since the Sony forum people for the most part didn't seem to have any suggestions I'd try here.
