Calibre (and computer) no longer recognizes ereader

Calibre used to detect my Sony PRS300 but it no longer does. (Either does my Xubunut computer.) I ran
Code:
dmesg
and it (in part) produced this:

Then followoing the Calibre manual I ran these commands and got this:

gregg@LG:~/Desktop$ grep SYSFS_DEPRECATED /boot/config-`uname -r`
# CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED is not set
gregg@LG:~/Desktop$ grep CONFIG_SCSI_MULTI_LUN /boot/config-`uname -r`
gregg@LG:~/Desktop$ ^C

Not real technical here and didn't know how to interpret this stuff. The ereader is stuck on "Opening Book." I'm just wondering if there's anything I can try of if I should pitch it.

Thanks.

New info: To my shock the computer recognized the ereader. But it would not let me add books. I could add them outside the database file but not within. At first when I tried to even open the folders, the folders would get lock icons on them. Then I managed to get into the Books folder (where the books should be) and when I went to paste a book there I got this screenshot.(38)
