Under Reader Settings, there's a checkbox to show header and footer, uncheck that, and install GeoffR's patch, full instructions are
here. I usually like the simplified page showing (143 / 412 for instance) and with a much smaller footer area, but you can set it to remove even the page numbers on epubs.
